SLC : School-based Learning Community (2015-2024)

"We empower teachers through training programs to build sustainable school learning communities, ensuring quality education for children."

From 2015 to 2024, Hope is Education carried out the School-Based Learning Community (SLC) Project in northern Uganda.

The project aimed to improve the quality of primary education by enhancing teacher's professional capacity and fostering collaborative learning communities within schools.

Over nearly a decade of implementation, Hope is Education developed standardized SLC manuals, provided large-scale trainings for teachers and inspectors, and launched leadership and refresher programs.

These efforts strengthened classroom practices, improved student participation, and enhanced the overall learning environment. The project also extended its impact beyond schools by engaging parents and communities through workshops and radio outreach, helping to build collective awareness of the importance of education.

By the time of its completion in 2024, the SLC Project had partnered with 46 primary schools across northern Uganda, directly supporting teachers and education officers while indirectly benefiting thousands of children and their families. This long-term project established a foundation for sustainable, community-centered educational development in the region.
